CA Farmer Veteran Coalition donations hit record high
The Farmer Veteran Coalition announced that nearly half a million dollars has been donated in awards and equipment to veterans across the country through the Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund.
Navy veteran Jesus Toro of Toro Honey Company in Madera, Calif., used a 2021 scholarship fund to purchase a trailer to transport his hives and equipment.
Another winner we have here is Air Force veteran Ashley Riggin, who used a scholarship fund to buy fences for her farm in Talking Rock, Georgia.
The Farmer Veteran Coalition’s Director of Marketing and Communications, Evan Eagan, joins us to talk about this opportunity.
“More than 130 veteran farmers representing 41 states and all branches of service – except the Space Force – received notifications this week that they had been selected to receive an award to purchase things like beekeeping equipment. , fences, livestock, tractor implements, walk-behind tractors and other supplies.”
“The Farmer Veteran Fellowship Fund recipients were selected by third-party reviewers comprised of seasoned agricultural industry professionals from the Farm Credit Council and their network of cooperative lending institutions, the National AgrAbility Project and other partner organizations. Entries were judged on the strength of a veteran’s business plan, a personal investment in their business, vision and goals, and a clear need for an application.”
