Cross Country Records Two teams in the top four at the A-10 Championship

MECANICSVILLE, Virginia – George Washington’s cross country put on a dynamic performance at the Atlantic 10 Championship on Saturday at Polo Green Park, with the men’s and women’s teams both finishing in the top four for only the second time in program history.

Individually, Ryan FowkesMichael Bohlke, Yukino Parle and Sarah Mitchell all took home All-Conference honors.

Fowkes, whose sixth place finish was the highest of any GW runner, set a new school record in the five miles with a time of 24:11.6.

OUTSTANDING:
• Fowkes has now set a new GW record in consecutive encounters. Two weeks ago at the ECU Pirate Invitational, Fowkes set a new program record in the 8k with a time of 24:18.21.
• The men finished third overall on Saturday, giving the team their best result since 2017.
• With their top 15, Bohlke and Fowkes become the first pair of male cross country teammates to earn All-Conference honors since 2017.
• The GW men have now had at least one All-Conference performer each of the past three years.
• GW Women placed fourth overall as a team. This is the fourth straight year that the women’s program has finished in the top four at the conference meet.
• Parle’s time of 17:12.9 is the second fastest 5K time in program history, while Mitchell’s time of 17:40.9 is the seventh fastest.
• This is the third year in a row that GW Women have had at least two All-Conference performers.
• Mitchell is the second straight year in GW’s freshman year to win all-conference honors, joining teammate Olivia Syftestad, who placed 15e in 2021.
•A total of eight different GW riders set new personal bests on Saturday.
