In January, I attended the Broward County Cultural Division’s Ignite Broward event. This event is in its second year and features interactive videos and light shows by artists from across our community. Events like this showcase to the public the world-class talent and creativity found in our community. Broward County is committed to hosting public art exhibits and investing in artists. The Powerhouse Port of Broward is on the rise! Port Everglades continues to set new records for cargo unloads and expands its cruise offerings. The increase in freight is due to new Super Post-Panamax gantry cranes and upcoming dredging which will further increase capacity by allowing larger vessels to call at our port. Cruises are also on the rise despite the current context. With offerings from all major cruise lines and the addition of Disney Cruise Lines, Port Everglades is ready to sail this year and leave its mark.

Broward County is working to ensure that every resident who needs a COVID-19 test can get one. In partnership with the State of Florida and the Florida Department of Health, Broward County is prepared to expand capacity if needed. Broward has the sites ready to increase capacity as resources are provided.

I look forward to working with municipalities across the county to provide these vital resources to protect public health. Remember to only get tested when necessary and the best way to protect yourself is to get vaccinated today.

February 14 marks the 4th anniversary when our community experienced the horrific tragedy of the shooting at MSD. We continue and will always be available to support those affected. It’s hard to put into words the feelings I’ve had since that day and the collective pain our community has endured. I will do everything in my power to support better mental health services and the best resources that can be provided.
